\nThe idea for the series was sparked in 2001, during my first encounter with a trio of Legends at a Hall of Fame weekend. At that time, the museum was still housed on a goat ranch in Helendale, California, under the passionate stewardship of Dixie Evans. What I witnessed was transformative: women, far past the age society deems conventionally beautiful, performing not for the male gaze but as an act of self-celebration. Their playful, knowing performances invited the audience into a shared experience, redefining sensuality with a wink and a nod. \n

\nIn 2009, nearly a decade later, I began photographing the Legends in their personal spaces—homes, hotels, wherever they felt most themselves. Each portrait is a collaborative reflection of their identity, featuring their favorite wardrobe and, when possible, archival press photos and headshots to provide a richer historical and cultural context. These archival materials connect their present to their most active years, highlighting both their personal journeys and their contributions to the art of burlesque.\n

\nThe series was put on hold in 2010 but resumed in 2024, part of this ongoing exploration of resilience, artistry, and empowerment.
